Honoring Herman Meinders: A Legacy of Generosity and Vision

Honoring Herman Meinders: A Legacy of Generosity and Vision

On March 30, 2025, we lost a beloved member of the Mercy community. Herman Meinders passed away at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy of giving that will continue to touch lives for generations to come.

Since 2018, Herman and his wife, LaDonna, donated over $26.4 million to Mercy Health Foundation, making the couple the largest individual benefactors across Mercy's entire ministry. Herman's generosity has reshaped the face of health care in Oklahoma, ensuring that patients receive high quality health care when they need it most.

Because of the Meinders family:

  • Stroke patients at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City can receive treatment faster than ever. A state-of-the-art CT imaging machine, funded by the Meinders, helped Mercy achieve the #1 national ranking in door-to-needle time, ensuring that stroke patients get quick treatment when every second counts.
  • People battling Parkinson's and other movement disorders now have access to specialized care through the Meinders Center for Movement Disorders, offering improved treatments and better quality of life.
  • The Meinders NeuroScience Institute has risen to become the top-ranked neurological hospital in the state, offering advanced treatments for brain and spine conditions.
  • And soon, Mercy will open the Kathryn Ann Meinders Digestive Health Institute , named in honor of their daughter, to provide world-class care to patients suffering from digestive conditions.

Thousands of lives have been changed. Families have been kept whole. And hope has been restored - all because Herman Meinders believed that quality health care should be accessible to more people in the community he loved.

At Mercy, we're proud to be stewards of Herman's selfless generosity. We're forever inspired by his compassion for others and the impact of his gifts.
